Austin SYNC Songwriting Camp

July 19-31, 2020
Sponsored by Austin Music Foundation and Divine & Conjure.

  • The camp will be conducted over the course of 2 weeks.
  • UMPG A&Rs will host a songwriting intro to begin the camp
  • Selected ATX songwriters will be paired with UMPG writers
  • Groups will consist of 2 topliners + 1 producer
  • Writers will have 7 days to complete a demo and 7 additional days to complete a finished song
  • Writers will have the opportunity to work with UMPG and SoundSync Music for placements in TV, film, etc.
  • It is NOT a full-time camp so if you have a day-job, you can work around whatever hours are most convenient for you.

NATHALIE PHAN, SoundSync Music

Ever since starting an award-winning college radio station at her alma mater St. Edward's University, Nathalie Phan has been involved in the complicated world of music licensing for nearly 7 years. She loves working with young entrepreneurs and has been the founder and CEO of On Vinyl Media, an artist support company that handles commercial music licensing in retail and restaurant environments, for 5 years. She recently began a company called SoundSync Music that handles synch licensing for a growing roster of local musicians in Austin. Her passion lies in local music and she sits on the board of EQ Austin and volunteers her time with Kids in a New Groove on their marketing board.

JONATHAN ‘CHAKA’ MAHONE, Divine and Conjure Enterprises

Known as a 'creative catalyst,' Mahone has a strong background in event production, curriculum development, multimedia content creation, songwriting, music production, and youth­ empowerment through arts. As a performing artist, he has traveled the world as one-half of the award-winning hip hop duo, Riders Against the Storm (RAS). As co-founder of Divine and Conjure Enterprises, LLC, a production company with a focus on empowering audiences through creative events, films, music, and more, he applies his creative talents for uplift. After years of service in the Austin community, his work was recognized by SXSW via their 2020 Dewey Winburne Community Service Award. Always an advocate for musicians and artists, Mahone founded DAWA, Diversity Awareness and Wellness in Action, in 2019 to provide a safety net for People of Color that are experiencing short term life crisis. More specifically, people of color who are: musicians, artists, social workers, teachers, healing practitioners, and service industry workers.


Madison Williams is the Artist Relations Intern for SoundSync Music and has served as President of UT Austin's music business organization, Euphoria ATX. Maddy looks forward to continuing to support her local music scene and has interned with C3 Presents and For the Students. A songwriter and guitarist, you can find her practicing and working on her craft around Austin.
