Shiela is an indie-r&b singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas who draws on Nicaraguan roots to make people dance. Her Spanish and English lyrics intertwine to soulfully paint the tensions and emotions of growing up. Shiela first learned to play music in Nicaragua during childhood visits to her family. She remembers watching the Selena movie for the first time and holds tightly to the fire it lit within her. Three years ago, Shiela began teaching herself guitar and writing music. Drawing inspiration from Rosalia, Kali Uchis and Selena, Shiela craves crossover success. Shiela’s debut album Chilita is a self reflective time capsule for the 24 year old. The album embodies Shiela -- it’s Latin, a little 90s and funky. Shiela spent nearly two years growing and reflecting on life, retrospectively writing her lyrics on long drives. She explores the duality of strength and vulnerability over dreamy bedroom-pop beats. Her art leaves the impression of a strong woman.
